A Ministry Beyond WallsIn many locations in South Calgary... and beyond.
A vital and healthy congregation, St. Andrew’s United Church chose to sell its building in the Fall of 2013 to expand its outreach work in Calgary. This amazing mission all began five years earlier when elder Lloyd Flood suggested that their building at Heritage and Elbow in Calgary be sold so that the congregation could have a wider ministry. Ironically, Lloyd was a founding member of the congregation who helped build the church in the 1950s. Through much prayer, discernment, planning and work, Flood’s idea took shape through the congregation and beyond. The congregation’s programs have begun to spread throughout the south end of the city in partnership with other agencies and churches. The building was sold. The church’s office and program space moved to 1-10601 Southport RD SW, now called St. Andrew’s Centre. The congregation now worships Sunday mornings together with Deer Park United Church. Programing takes place at St. Andrew’s Centre and locations throughout southern Calgary. Lloyd, 83 died in March 2011, but his vision continued to take shape. Yet it was one the congregation took hold of and understood. Congregation members gathered in the old building for a final feast on October 29, 2013. One of the younger members, Annalee, led those gathered in grace. She said she was sad to leave her church building behind but she was happy she would continue to be with her church family in a new place. The ministry of St. Andrew’s United, Calgary, continues in a new way and in new places. Join us for one of those adventures of a lifetime!
I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Acts 1:17
