a new way to worship.

Next Naked Faith:
Naked Faith is an alternative worship experience aimed at youth and young adults but open to all. March’s Naked Faith takes place on Friday, March 16th @ St. Thomas United Church. Naked Faith begins with dinner @ 6 pm, service @ 7 pm, and then youth grades 6-12 are invited to stay for programming until 10:30 pm. Young adults head to a nearby pub to engage in conversation.
Naked Faith’s theme in April is “Cross the Divide”, planned and led by members of the Zambia Youth Exposure Trip from 2017. We will dive into the challenges and celebrations that come with managing differences in culture, belief and values, and what we can learn from that for our context back home in Canada.
Dirty Theology is a Young Adult worship series that happens the third Sunday evening of each month. It is aimed at young adults from 18 years (who have graduated high school) and onwards. It runs from 6:30 to 8 pm and includes worship and facilitated conversation. Dirty Theology is put on in partnership with Campus Ministry.
Church as it is today does not resonate with a large number of youth or young adults. Traditional methods of worship do not always hook new, younger members in the same way as they did in the past.
We believe faith still has significance with the younger generation. Naked Faith is an alternative worship experience that draws inspiration from events such as YC Alberta and infuses it with theology of the United Church. Dreamt up and founded by members of this younger generation as well as including involvement by numerous youth and young adults, it is an event that truly lives and breathes youth. Featuring energetic popular music, powerful messages, deep conversation and a free meal, this is something you don’t want to miss.
Naked Faith happens the third Friday of every month at different United Churches around Calgary. It begins with dinner, followed by an hour-long service. Afterwards, youth from grades 6 through 12 are invited to stay for games and activities until 10:30. Young adults are invited to head to a nearby pub to engage in further discussion about the theme, or to simply enjoy the community. Naked Faith is facilitated and made possible by Regional Youth and Young Adult Ministries, funded by St. Andrew’s United Church in Calgary.
All are welcome at Naked Faith – we look forward to seeing you.
Meet the Team
Andrew is the director of the Naked Faith Band, and helps with the planning, writing, and execution of the monthly services. Andrew has been doing youth work in the United Church for the past 9 years, and recently completed his MSc in Counselling Psychology and became registered as a Provisional Psychologist. Andrew plays guitar, sings, and occasionally pretends he knows how to play piano.
Brenda is the Director of Regional Youth and Young Adult Ministries, and the Youth Minister at St. Andrew’s United Church. She has been doing youth work in the United Church across BC and Alberta for the past 15 years. Brenda helps with the writing, planning, and behind-the-scenes work on Naked Faith every month.
Josh is the co-band leader along with Andrew, focusing on training the vocalists and helping keep Andrew sane. Josh and Andrew have been playing music together since Josh was in grade 7, and it continues to bond them. Josh is currently attending Ambrose University with a double major in Behavioural Sciences and Music, with the intention of becoming a Music Therapist. Josh sings and plays the bass guitar, drums, guitar, piano, ukulele, banjo, and probably at least 10 other instruments. Josh likes pizza and naps.
