To All Deer Park United, St. Andrews United Members and Adherents:
The Amalgamation Steering Committee (ASC) is pleased to release the Executive Summary of the ASC Amalgamation Report. The full report is not yet quite ready for distribution but will be made available early next week. The Executive Summary contains the primary recommendations regarding the amalgamation question. Spoiler alert, the ASC is recommending that a vote take place in late October or early November regarding the amalgamation question. After considerable thought, prayer, deliberation and discussion, the ASC wholeheartedly and unequivocally recommends a vote in favour of amalgamating the faith communities of Deer Park and St. Andrews with an implementation date of January 1, 2022.
To help put the ASC recommendations in perspective, the ASC is scheduling two Question and Answer sessions for the end of June. By necessity, these Q&A sessions will be Zoom meetings. (Hopefully, that will change soon!) The sessions are scheduled for June Sunday, June 27 at 11:15 AM and the second session is scheduled for Tuesday, June 29th at 7:00 PM. Please let Emma and Jennifer know no later than Thursday, June 24th which session you would like to attend and a Zoom meeting invitation will be sent to you.
Over the summer, ASC members will make themselves available to meet with you individually or in small groups, but no formal informational meetings or feedback sessions will be scheduled until September. As always if you have concerns, comments and/or feedback, please feel free to contact any member of the ASC. We are fortunate that our two communities of faith have an opportunity to become a single faith community. Unlike many other United Churches, our amalgamation is not born out of necessity but of Opportunity. An Opportunity to do more, to become more. To grow stronger, expand our reach and further develop meaningful ministries and programs.
Respectfully submitted by
John Palmer and Jan van Egteren
Co-Chairs of the Amalgamation Steering Committee
