St. Andrew’s Arlene Lai is aiming to direct her own documentary and she is well on the way to making that happen.
Arlene and local filmmaker Matthew Embry have put together a promotional video to seek funding to put together a documentary. Arlene, who has cerebral palsy, explains, “I want to do a documentary about what biases and ignorance I come upon every day. Hopefully, it gives people more awareness that some people only have a physical disability that doesn’t affect their cognitive abilities. People have talked to me and treated me like I am five.”
Arlene and her team have approached the Banff World Media Festival for grants and will be approaching networks such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.
We hope to be able to show you the documentary’s promo video shortly.
